Dr. John Joseph
Dr. John Joseph, a 1983 batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes), comes with 36 years of experience in public service. As Member and Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, he had pioneered, the project for e-way bill linkage to fastag to improve compliance in GST; the rolling out of e office project in CBIC. Besides enhancing the administrative set-up, he had introduced new reforms that helped improve the national rankings in the ease of doing business index, like Direct port delivery (DPD) and Direct port Export (DPE)
During his tenure in the Finance Ministry, he had handled various assignments including Member (Tax Policy, GST & Investigation), Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, The first Director General of Director General, of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGSTI), Chief Commissioner (Customs) Nava Sheva. One third of his service was in the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at various levels including the apex level. He was a member of the Justice Shah Commission on Black Money. He is also a member of the Delhi Bar Association and served as Director in the Board of GSTN, the company that runs the GST network.
Dr. John Joseph was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Meritorious Service for exemplary service done to the nation in the Customs and Central Excise Service.
